Kibera residents continue living along the roadside even after they received an evacuation notice to allow for the construction and expansion of the road.

The residents say they have no place to move to since the slum is congested. Some said they will not move until they are compensated by the government officials who want them to out.

One resident, Rita Mususngu said she will not evacuate the premises since she has no money to cater for transportation of her belongings and to rent a new house.

‘‘Moving to a new house requires a lot of money. This is hard for me to get,’’ she said.

Another resident, Monicah Mwangi said she will not evacuate since her business is at its peak and she has no place to relocate to.

‘‘I have been here since 1996. My customers are also within here. If I move it means I will be disturbing the business which can easily lead to my fall,’’ said Ms Mwangi.

Andrew Bocheri also said he will not relocate until the government compensates him.

‘‘They need to give us some time to plan. They cannot just chase us from the premises. My kids are in school and I think moving them from here will disrupt their class concentration,’’ he said.
