The recently released 2015 KCSE results showed that many girls have the capability to compete with the boys in education.

For this reason, Kibera residents have been told to ensure that the girl child gets education as well as the boy child for equity.

Speaking at Olympic area in Kibera, Alice Ayuma, a teacher said that parents do not see the importance of girl child education not knowing every child has the right to education. She urged women to stand firm and ensure girls are educated in the society to compete as well as boys do.

“Some parents have ill intentions that girls should not be educated. As parents, we should take it seriously when it comes to education because it is the right of every children be it a girl or a boy to get education,” she said.

Ayuma noted that early marriages to the girl child should be dealt with accordingly by relevant authorities for justice to prevail in the girl child education.
