A section of Kibera residents have urged the county government of Nairobi through its governor, Evans Kidero to start a street children clearing exercise.
According to the residents, the number of street children in Nairobi has gradually increased and they cause more discomfort to the city residents, especially those working in the city centre.
Jackline Awilo said she has had a rough time in the hands of some street children where the experience was very bad.
‘‘I was walking from Haille Sellasie towards Afya centre when two men came my way asking for money. I only had sh50 left for my fare back but they did not want to listen,’’ she said.
‘‘The street men then demanded sh100 when I told them I don’t have, they showed me a needle which had liquid in the syringe. They told me they would inject me if I will not give them what they want. I ended up giving out sh50,’’she added.
Pamela Wambulwa said the street kids should be taken to a rehabilitation centre and then to school to help them live their dreams.
‘‘Some street children have bigger ambitions but they don’t have anyone to support them. The governor should think about this and help these kids,’’ she concluded.
