Women in Kibera have been urged to apply for scholarships being offered by various organisations to boost their knowledge.

The scholarships seek to enable women from Africa and developing countries to study in US, Europe, Canada and Makerere University in Uganda.

Kibra MP Ken Okoth has supported the scholarship programme saying it is a boost to the Elimu Kwanza (education first) campaign that he is running in the constituency.

Sharing the information on his Facebook page on Thursday, Okoth called on women from the area to apply for the scholarships.

On Friday, Miriam Wanja from Makina market said she has not applied for the scholarship because she wasn’t aware such programmes exist.

“I am not on social media, I cannot tell if the scholarships have been advertised or not. It is time I joined social media since it seems I am missing out on very important information,” said Wanja.

She urged other women to join social media to get information which they could be missing.

Okoth started his education first campaign to urge residents to embrace education for a better future.
