Gatundu North MP Kigo Njenga has cautioned politicians against politicising corruption and instead wants them to allow institutions mandated to deal with graft do their job.

Speaking to journalists when he toured Gatundu Town on Monday, Kigo lashed out at a section of politicians who he accused of individualising and politicising the vice.

The MP said that independent offices mandated to deal with graft must be allowed to investigate and prosecute corruption suspects.

“It is unfortunate that a section of politicians have resulted to politicising corruption matters and condemning people who are still innocent and until proven guilty,” he said.

The MP said that the pressure being mounted on Devolution Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru to resign over alleged corruption at her ministry is unnecessary and targets her as an individual.

He said that some leaders are using corruption allegations to fight Waiguru.

“We must allow the independent offices to handle these corruption matters and stop condemning people who are innocent until they are proven guilty,” he said.

The MP said that some of the politicians condemning and calling for resignation of Devolution CS have corruption allegations which they have not been cleared.

He called for objectivity in the fight against graft saying that condemning and calling for people’s resignation will not help much.

The Devolution Ministry has been under fire over alleged massive corruption with a section of leaders both from the government and the opposition calling for Waiguru’s resignation.

Waiguru has however defended herself against the allegations. She is expected to be grilled by officials of the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) over the alleged corruption later today.
