Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wa has urged the Independent Electoral Commission IEBC to extend the registration exercise so as to register many voters.
Speaking at Kikuyu ACK church where he was giving relief food to needy families in the area. Ichung’wa said the exercise has not experienced a large turn out in the area as many especially grass root residents didn’t know of the ongoing registrations.
He said that most grassroot locals don’t have television sets or even radios especially those from needy homes and they weren’t aware of the exercise. He said such people need to be reached and in order to do so, the IEBC should extend the registration period.
‘’Many people are not even aware of this exercise especially the needy homes and also the old ones.I want to request the IEBC to consider extending the period of the exercise so that many Kenyans can register,’’ said Ichung’wa.
He however also called on locals to go and register on time and avoid the last minute rush which may see them not register hence not having the opportunity to vote come 2017.He said that the exercise despite being advertised and announced, there are those people who wake up the last minute to come and register and find themselves out.
However he said that extending time for the exercise would be the best solution so that it would see many people register.
