Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung'wa has called on youths in the area to stand firm against corruption and be united so as to move the country forward.

Speaking to youths in Kikuyu town during a youth entrepreneurship forum at the Give Hope Hall Monday, Ichung’wa said Pope Francis's message to the youth last Friday was a message of change of society.

He said youths should embrace the message and put it into practice. The MP said change should start with fighting corruption.

Citing corruption as one of the biggest vices in the country, he said youths should start fighting the vice among themselves.

He said this was important because the youth were the hope of this country and any decision they make could make or destroy the society.

The Kikuyu legislator said he had offered youths opportunities in the Constituency Development Fund offices and so far they were doing well.

He, however, said youths should shun corruption or tribalism as that is always the beginning of downfall.

"I want to urge you today to be in the frontline in the fight against these vices. This fight is not for the President alone. He needs the youths to always play a role for the country not to carry this vice into the next generation," said Ichung'wa.

He also stated that youths being the majority in the country, they could decide the best leadership by their own observation of such vices.

He said it was time for the youth to stand firm and not to allow tribalism to divide them.
