Kikuyu OCPD Matune Maweu has warned members of the public against taking the law into their hands by beating and assaulting suspected criminals.
Speaking to journalists from his office on Sunday, the OCPD decried the rising cases where suspected criminals are allegedly beaten and assaulted by some members of the public. The OCPD stated that members of the public have no right to beat suspected criminals. Mr. Maweu instead asked members of the public to allow the police to handle criminal matters.
“We are discouraging members of the public against taking the law into their hands by beating suspected criminals, they should allow us to do our work,” he said.
The Kikuyu OCPD said that police are the only people mandated to handle suspected criminals.
He further said that the police have enough mechanisms to handle criminals adding that the role of the members of the public is to provide information on suspected criminal activities.
“Members of the public should work with us to tame crime and make this area safe,” he said.
He also affirmed that the police have stepped up efforts to contain crime within Kikuyu sub county.
