Residents of Kirenga village in Lari constituency have urged the police to beef up security in the area and deal with criminal elements allegedly causing havoc in the area.
The residents complain over what they term as rise in criminal activities and want the police to streamline security.
Speaking to this writer on Wednesday, the residents alleged existence of criminal gangs that are behind a series of robberies.
The locals claim that the gang has been behind several cases of robberies and muggings.
Josephine Mumia, a resident alleged that some of the criminal activities are conducted in broad daylight.
“The police should intensify security patrols and deal with criminal goons causing as sleepless nights,” she appealed.
Jane Kihara, a resident and a businesswoman alleged that she was accosted last week by three people armed with crude weapons who demanded money and other valuables.
She said that the goons accosted her as she walked home from her kiosk. “It is saddening that security is deteriorating, the government should guarantee the security of citizens and their business,” she said.
Reacting to the claims by the locals, Lari acting Police Commander Dorothy Nahashon said security will be streamlined.
The acting police boss asked residents to report all cases of crime to enable the law enforcers act effectively.
She said that security will be beefed up adding that police are mounting 24-hour patrols to smoke out criminals.
