Kisii County Government in collaboration with International Medical Corps from USA have started a week’s medical camp for screening and treatment of cervical cancer in women.

The county’s Minister for Health Mrs Sarah Omache said that she was happy to inform the residents of Kisii that they have visitors who have been of great help to the county and have brought along with them two cervical cancer screening machines.

Mrs Omache said that last year the International Medical Corps brought in three cervical cancer screening machines to the county and they had now added two more. She noted that at least every sub-county in Kisii had one cervical cancer screening machine.

She called on women in the county to come out in large numbers and get screened for cervical cancer noting that the earlier it is detected the better for them.

“Women should go get tested so that this cancer that is killing many women in our county can be contained. Once it is detected early you must be helped,” she said.

She urged the women not to let the machines lie in the hospitals idle adding that prevention is the best measure they would take to avoid deaths from the cancer.
