Kisii university intends to hold a soapstone training workshop for artisans and artefact designers.

This comes after the university's research and extension division held a successful workshop on the same at Itibo resort in January this year.

The registrar of research and extension Professor Anakalo Shitandi, said in an interview on Thursday that the workshop is in line with the mission of Kisii University to train high-level human resource that meets the development needs of the country and international labour markets.

And also to sustain production of high-quality research and dissemination of skills and competencies for the advancement of humanity.

"The main objective of the workshop is to improve skills of artisans in Kisii county and sensitise them on how they can empower themselves economically," he said.

The participants will be particularly drawn from Tabaka region whose people depend on soapstone as a means of livelihood.

Shitandi welcomed and encouraged artisans to form groups to aid them to establish partnerships with the university.

The official date will be announced officially.
