Two members of Kisumu County Assembly have prevailed upon the county Senator Prof Anyang Nyong’o to make a shot at the county gubernatorial seat in 2017.

Kaloleni-Shauri Moyo ward representative Prisca Misachi and her Chemelil counterpart George Osano said Prof Nyong’o has what it takes to lead the county.

Misachi who is a onetime Kisumu Mayor said the county is lagging behind in terms of development.

She said with only two years remaining to the end of the term, there is nothing to show for Kisumu residents.

“The executive has been concentrating on putting structures at the expense of development. We want to promote the Senator to the governorship so that we can see real change,” she said.

Misachi said the track record of the Senator is splendid and that will help propel the county to greater heights.

While speaking over the weekend in Nyakach, Osano said the current leadership in the county has failed to steer the county in the right direction.

He said it is time the mantle is handed over to Prof Nyong’o to instil the culture of performance to enable the locals to enjoy devolution.

“During the electioneering period, locals were promised development. That promise has not been fulfilled. If the governor is unable to run the county, let him hand over to Prof Nyong’o,” he said.

Prof Nyong’o who was also present noted that upon assuming office, he will establish village council to run devolution affairs at the grassroots level.

He said devolution is not complete without the existence of the village council that comprises five members.

“In the entire country, there is no county which has established a village council, that is the beginning of devolution. It is important that this village council is established according to the constitution and the county government Act, failing which when I become the Governor that is the first thing I will do,” he said.
