As Kenyans ushered in the New Year, Kisumu residents have appealed for unity and harmony to prevail in 2016.
They at the same time called for unity of all Kenyans in bid to deal with the challenges the country faced in 2015.
Led by the clergy, they attributed the peace, security and infrastructural development experienced in 2015 to unity, the will to do good and prayers that have guided the region for a long time.
On New Year’s eve on Friday, they flocked churches and social joints to usher in 2016 in style.
Churches of nearly all denominations held prayers to thank God for 2015 and pray for the new year.
At Citam Kisumu, the message by Reverend Ibrahim Ochieng was clear that residents ought to strive to do good as that will ensure vices such as corruption, insecurity, ethnicity among others are shunned.
“It was because we were united, prayerful and wanted to do good in Kisumu that ensured insecurity is contained and infrastructural development picks up as witnessed in 2015,” said Rev Ochieng.
He asked the congregation to respect authorities and government organs as the move will also ensure peace the country would wish to experience in 2016 and subsequent years.
Bishop William Ochieng of the Holy Spirit Power and Healing ministries in Nyalenda Estate asked President Uhuru Kenyatta to strive and unite the country ahead of the 2017 general election.
“We have passed through a lot as a country. The president must now come out and unite us so that we do not experience the turmoil we have witnessed in the past years,” said Bishop Ochieng.
Meanwhile, Prophet David Owuor’s three-day prayer meeting continued unabated as faithful braved the cold to listen to the word of God.
