Kisumu residents have been urged to be on the look out for gas dealers that are mushrooming in the town.
Monicah Ochel from the Energy Regulatory Commissioner warned that many people are coming up with the gas supplying business without getting clearance from the relevant authorities.
Ochel has said that some of the cooking gas supplied is not genuine as it refilled without meeting the set standards.
She also said that some of the cylinders used do not meet the required standards.
“We have come to learn that some of the cylinders used are made of plastic, something that is against the set regulations. Such cylinders are bound to explode any time when under pressure,” said Ochel.
Ochel urged the public to be wary of such businesses that are growing up fast and that are selling their gas cheaply.
“When you buy gas at a cheap price, ask yourself why is it cheap compared to other places. Many people who sell ineligible gas usually sell at a cheap price as a way of fooling the public to buy. Once you buy they disappear,” said Ochel.
Ochel urged the public to ensure that dealers have a displayed license or alternatively purchase gas cylinders from petrol stations.
