Residents of Lisuka Kanyawegi in Kisumu West have blamed police over delays to arrest a suspected rapist.

The 25-year-old female suspect is linked to a number of cases of raping minors in the area. However, no action has been taken by the police.

The cases have been followed by Plan International officers since October last year when they got the report. A parent of one of the abused children said he got information from the teacher. The teacher got the report from the pupils and later informed the parent.

"Its the teacher who told me of the matter last year. I took action. I took the child to hospital where he was treated," the parent said.

Another parent whose child was also a victim said he employed the suspect as a house help. He later got a report from villagers about the suspect's behaviour. The man said he later caught her with his son seated on the bed naked.

"When I walked to my child's room, I found her seated naked on the bed with my son also seated next to her naked," the man said.

The man claimed that his four sons, aged between 8 to 15, had been defiled by the suspect.

Plan International gave a briefing concerning the matter. The officers revealed that up to seven boys have been abused by the suspect and four were still under treatment.

The program manager, Raphael Aoko, urged parents to look after all children. He added that the boy child just like the girl child are at risk of being defiled.

"The parents must now take it seriously to safeguard rights of a boy child too. Every day, people think that only girl child rights can be violated. In our work as Plan International, we have realised that even boys' rights are violated like those of a girl child." said Raphael.

The manager also challenged parents to shun bribes from perpetrators of such acts against children.
