The completion of the lighting project in Kisumu city is over 60 per cent done and upon completion it will drastically reduce crime rates in the lakeside city.
Kisumu Central MP Ken Obura thanked President Uhuru Kenyatta for sanctioning the project that will herald a new beginning in Kisumu.
Obura said the national government has pumped in Sh550 million into the lighting project.
He explained that the project is not a county government project as alluded to in the recent past by the media.
“This is a national government project, not county government project as had been reported. But you know that everybody would want to associate with good things,” he said.
Obura, who spoke over the weekend in Kisumu at the ACK thanksgiving where President Uhuru was the chief guest, appealed to the head of state to hand over the project to governor Jack Ranguma upon completion.
President Uhuru said that he is committed to see the lighting project completed and promised to return to Kisumu to launch it officially.
“I am happy to hear that the project is fairing on well, I promise to be back to do official launch once it is complete,” he said.
Kisumu Governor Jack Ranguma also attributed the crime reduction to the lighting project in the city.
Ranguma said every part of the city and the entire county should be lit to drive away criminals.
“We have Quick Response Unit that has also done some good work to fight crime in the city and with the lighting project, all criminals will flee this city,” he said.
