Youth in Kisumu County have been challenged to embrace sporting activities for a better future.

Speaking during a local tournament on Monday, Nyalenda B Member of County Assembly (MCA) James Were asked youth to stop depending solely on formal education.

“If you are talented in a given sport, kindly build on it because you never know where your talent will take you. It may turn out to be your career if education fails. Youth need to realise sports pay well,” said Were.

The MCA reiterated his commitment to giving young people an opportunity to grow and promote their abilities by showcasing their talents to premier league officials.

The MCA also urged school going children in the county to shun drugs, sex, and criminal activities.

Were urged his fellow leaders in the area to join him in organising local tournaments for the youth in the county, saying it is through such opportunities that they get to interact and borrow new ideas from each other.

“Tournaments help to create understanding, friendship, and tap talents within a community through competition,” he said.
