Kenya National Union of Teachers Wareng branch executive secretary John Boor has condemned the Teachers Service Commission for proposing laws to bar head teachers from joining unions.
Speaking in his office at Cheptiret on Monday, Boor said the move by TSC is out of order and aims to weaken Knut as the strongest teacher’s union.
" I don’t support the proposed laws by TSC that headteachers should not join unions since they are administrators, why should they be denied the right to join unions and yet they are teachers?"he posed.
He said it is a move by the government through TSC to do away with teachers unions for them to infringe on the rights of teachers without anyone questioning them.
"I read malice in the TSC move to deny head teachers a chance to belong to unions and as teachers unions, we will not allow such rule to be implemented” he said.
Boor said head teachers are just like other teachers and needs a strong union that will fight for their rights if infringed.
"The reason they are giving is that head teachers are administrators thus have much to do does it remove him or her from being a teacher," he said.
He urged the teacher’s employer to do shelve the proposal or else they prepare themselves for an endless battle in and outside court.
