The government has failed to remit the Kenya National Union of Teachers’ (KNUT) money for the last five months leading to the KNUT chairman, Wilson Sossion calling for a strike.

Sossion said KNUT has suffered a lot to an extent of its property being auctioned by banks. Some of the employees, however, are said to have gone for five months without salary. He cautioned the government from doing things unconstitutionally. He said that the contract issue will bring more harm than good as it will not guarantee quality education to scholars.

Last year, school going children were forced to sit at home for more than three weeks as teachers had striked. This really affected the children’s performance. The candidates felt they had not been well prepared and they ended up looking for exam leakage to pass.

Teachers have been going through tough times complaining of financial constraints since the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has been cutting their pay. The TSC, however, denied doing anything of the sort.
