Nakuru Town East MP David Gikaria has been accused of seeking political mileage over his push to have prostitution legalised.
Former Subukia lawmaker Koigi wa Wamwere argued that Gikaria was using the plight of the sex workers in Nakuru to endear himself to voters.
Speaking on Saturday during an interview with Sauti ya Mwananchi radio, Koigi argued that by pushing for the legalisation of the vice, Gikaria was supporting the moral degradation that has become rampant in society.
He added that if prostitution is legalised, then the war against HIV/Aids and other sexually transmitted diseases would be lost.
Instead, he advocated for the empowerment of women who already engage in the illegal trade so that they stop selling their bodies to earn income.
Gikaria had earlier argued that there is need to legalise prostitution so that commercial sex workers can operate without fear of being targeted.
