Residents of Koinange Estate in Nakuru have welcomed the installation of a new Mulika Mwizi in the area saying it will beef up security.
They said the area, which has been experiencing insecurity challenges was due to the darkness.
Nyumba Kumi chairman Geoffrey Kimani said the darkness had prevented residents from moving out of their houses in the evening for fear of being attacked and robbed.
“We were locked in our houses from as early as 7pm as we feared moving outside the gates. However, we can now operate in peace without worrying about our security,” he said on Tuesday.
Esther Njeri, a resident, thanked the area MCA Daniel Kamau for the initiative.
“We feel grateful that at least we have seen development come to our area,” she added.
Magdaline Waweru, added that the light will also enable them extend their business activities to late hours.
“Businessmen will now be able to come and sell their wares without fear of being attacked,” she added.
Joshua Kipsang added that now their vehicles and parked lorries are safe and can be parked outside the estate.
“We are now sure that no one can lurk behind the fences and it is more open and transparent,” he added.
