Konate residents in Nyamira South Sub County on Wednesday got a rear treat of free alcohol after a lorry carrying beer overturned while heading to Nyamira town.
The 10am incident which occurred at the sharp Konate corner in the outskirts of Nyamira town attracted a huge crowd of residents who rushed to scramble for beer before police arrived to disperse them.
According to Mr Eric Mochama an eye witness, the driver of the lorry was trying to negotiate the sharp bend when the canter lost control and overturned before landing into a ditch.
Mochama said the driver was lucky because he managed to escape unhurt but some residents managed to steal beer. However, police managed to contain the situation.
Confirming the incident Nyamira Police patrol officer Mr Ken Kiptanui said they arrived a few minutes late and found that the residents had already stolen some few creates of beer.
He added that they have already arrested some suspects involved in looting and they will face charges once investigations are over.
He called upon drivers using the route to take extra caution when engaging sharp corners that have always been behind many accidents in the route.
The canter is currently held at Nyamira police station and no one was injured in the incident.
