Kisii University Students Union (Kusu) newly elected officials were officially sworn in Thursday morning at Dr Sagini Hall at the main campus.
In the event that was graced by the university administration officials, Jeff Mitei was sworn in as the Kusu president, Judith Makau his deputy, Duke Gwaro as secretary general, Opollo Bradox as the organising secretary, Beatrice Adhiambo as academic secretary, Mary Jane Njue as finance secretary and Mercy Chepng’eno as Gender and welfare.
In his speech, Mitei promised to serve students fairly and ensure efficiency when handling student affairs.
“I will serve comrades without any form of discrimination and ensure student affairs are handled accordingly,” promised Mitei.
He added that the university should embrace online registration and ensure that students' transcripts are processed in time.
Deputy Vice Chancellor Academic Affairs Prof Maurice Amutabi urged the new Kusu officials to embrace the leadership skills exhibited by former union officials who he said served the students well.
“Jeff Mitei and your team, you should embrace the former union’s leadership under Rodgers Nanyumba,” said Prof Amutabi.
He further urged the new president to reach out to the opposition who lost in the polls to promote unity among students.
The event was followed by a handing over ceremony at Dados Hotel in Kisii town.
