Farmers from Kinyaata sub location in Yatta sub county have called upon the Kenya Wildlife Service to tame a herd of hippopotamuses that are invading their farms and destroying crops at night. The animals are said to come from the shores of Athi river.
The farmers claimed that the animals have wrecked havoc in their farms and have expressed fear that they are a danger to not only to crops but also to residents. The residents want the KWS to act fast as many are forced to spend nights in their farms guarding their crops against the hippos.
"I urge the KWS to act immediately to tame the wild animals to curb destruction of our crops,” said Collins Mweu, a farmer in the area.
The residents on the same note threatened to kill the animals if they catch them if KWS won't act fast as they won't sit and risk their lives or watch as their crops get destroyed.
