The recent wave of land wrangles in Nakuru County pose a threat to the ongoing healing efforts in the volatile county, area elders have said.

Speaking Sunday in Nakuru town, the elders under the aegis of the Rift Valley Council of Elders claimed the ongoing chaotic confrontations in Molo, Njoro and Naivasha sub-counties were threatening to rip apart the relative peace currently being witnessed in a county which not so long ago was the epicentre of ethnic killings.

Council chairman Gilbert Kabage decried the sorry state of affairs at Ngongongeri farm where tension remains high after one person was shot dead and several houses torched over land rows even as the government moved in to restore calm.

Kabage urged the government to ensure lasting peace in the areas ahead of the 2017 elections, adding that as elders, they would support such initiatives.

At the same time, he also urged the Ministry of Lands and the National Land Commission to provide permanent solution to land issues to avert any future chaos.
