Police in Lari Sub-County have arrested five suspected thieves believed to be behind a series of cattle theft in the area.

The five were nabbed at Gathwariga village in Lari, after police foiled their plans to steal.

Confirming the arrest, Lari Sub-County Administration Police Commandant Mr David Chemwitich said the five suspected thieves were nabbed on Tuesday morning.

He said police had received a tip off from members of the public and set a trap for the suspected thieves before they were netted.

“We laid a trap for the suspects after receiving information from members of the public and at around 3.00 am on Tuesday, we pounced on them as they tried to gain access to a home in Gathwariga village ” he said.

Chemwitich said the five are suspected to be part of a gang that steals cattle from residents at night, adding that cases of cattle theft had risen in the last two months in the area.

The suspects are said to have been armed with crude weapons and dog poison.

The AP commandant said the suspects will aid the police in investigations, adding that surveillance will be increased in the area.

The suspects are being held at the Lari Police station as investigations into the matter continue.
