Less than a week after Nyamira Youth Summit was botched following arresting of organizers by the police on claim that the meeting was not certified by the authorities, the leaders have now come out to defend their plans for the youth.
The summit was abandoned prematurely after a section of youths suspected to be allied to county leadership worked with the police to disrupt the event in Nyamaiya stadium on Sunday.
On Wednesday, organizers led by Walter Samuel vowed to push the youth agenda by holding meetings from ward level to sensitize youths about their role in governance and development.
“The fact that we were disrupted to discuss our problems it doesn’t mean that we will tire. We are soon organizing meeting at grassroots to meet with more youths to discuss our predicament and forward the resolutions to the county assembly as a petition,” he said.
According to him, tenders meant for the youths in the county government were given to people outside the youth bracket contrary to the law and that the county was involved in skewed employment, giving youths a raw deal.
“We have a lot of problems surrounding us. Tenders meant for the youth in county government are given to over age people. We are also not happy with the employment process in the county,” he added.
Wesley Onyinkwa on his part said the organizers were planning to launch a website that will be mandated to discuss matters governance in the county leadership that will also be used to articulate the youth agenda.
“We have many options and the county leadership should not write us off. We will launch a website that will be a platform to articulate our issues,” he said.
