Leaders across the country have been urged to stop politicking and concentrate on the development agenda.

Monica Akumu an activist from 'Maisha Bora', an organisation based in Kisumu, said that politicking at this moment should not be happening considering that the elections are 19 months away and there are important issues affecting the country and need to be tackled immediately.

“Our leaders are committing an injustice to Kenyans who trusted them with the mandate of serving them. As it stands, even though official campaign date has not been set by IEBC, leaders seems to have started campaigning,” said Akumu.

Akumu who was speaking on Thursday said that judging from the past, political campaigns usually halt the countries key operations, as people usually get divided by endless rallies carried across the country.

“19 months is enough time to develop key sectors of our economy, but that does not seem likely if those mandated with that task are busy tarnishing each other's name, with the aim of winning over Kenyans,” added Akumu.

She cautioned Kenyans not to be victims of politicking.

“Kenyans, however, should not allow consequences of politicking affect them. This is the time to evaluate those we elected before if they are they have done their job. We should be looking for leaders who have been siding with the common mwananchi and tackling problems affecting them,” she said.
