The county leadership of Nyamira has been urged to fire people implicated in various corruption scandals to save the county from attracting headlines in major national dailies.

Two MCAs from minority parties on Wednesday took again on Governor John Nyagarama, accusing him of being ‘too lenient’ hence making the public resources vulnerable to corrupt personnel in various public departments.

Minority leader Jackson Mogusu, who was first to address the fundraising in his Nyansiongo backyard, said the governor was carrying unnecessary burden and urged him to crack a whip regardless of political implication it may have on his re-election bid in 2017, pointing out on alleged inflating of prices on soft drinks and sugar for offices which led to summons from the senate.

“The governor sometimes carries unnecessary burden. Recently, I saw him summoned to the senate to explain inflation of prices that allegedly led to losing of Sh2.8 million in buying of office soft drinks and sugar. Time has come for him to crack the whip regardless of its political implication,” he said.

His Mekenene counterpart, Alfayo Ngeresa, said many of the corrupt officials were people rewarded in their role played to Mr Nyagarama’s victory in 2013 and warned that the public was likely to turn against the county government if the leadership condemned the corrupt individuals.

“It’s really sad that you can fear firing people simply because they helped you in one way or the other in 2013. That time has gone and it’s time to let everyone carry his or her own cross. The public will punish his government if Nyamira County to make negative headlines on corruption related matters,” he said.

Governor Nyagarama was recently accused by a section of MCAs for allegedly declining to submit a taskforce report for discussion in the assembly with a number of them saying the move was meant to shield some of his confidents from prosecution.
