Nakuru deputy Governor Joseph Rutto has called on all leaders from the county to be peace ambassadors instead of focusing on gaining political power.
He said most politicians are more focused on being elected rather than preaching peace among different communities within the county.
Rutto said most ethnic and land conflicts being witnessed in the region could be easily solved and avoided if only leaders preached peace and unity among residents.
Speaking Tuesday in Nakuru town, Rutto said politicians can be the best peace ambassadors if they decide to because they are listened to and trusted by most people.
“If a politician today stands here and tells people let’s fight, they will follow him and if he tells them to stop fighting, they will also do exactly that because politicians have some way of convincing people,” said Rutto.
He added; “They should use that convincing power to talk to their people and ask them to stop all these things of ethnic fighting because they don’t help.”
The DG called on leaders to be peace makers and not inciters.
