Kiambu County Executive for Environment and Natural Resources Esther Njuguna has urged residents to support the measures being taken and implemented by the county government in regards to waste management.
Speaking to journalists when she toured the Kango’ki Land Fill project in Thika on Thursday, the CeC said that waste management remains a serious challenge to the environment.
She asked residents to adopt proper ways of waste disposal as the county formulates more appropriate waste management system.
Njuguna noted rising cases where some residents dispose waste everywhere including town streets and centers.
“Our appeal is to Kiambu residents to adopt proper ways of disposing waste and also support the waste management measures we are putting in place for the sake of conserving the environment,” she said.
The Kiambu Environment CeC stated that environment will be conserved better is waste is management well.
She said that the county has embarked on a process of clearing waste from streets and town centers.
The CeC at the time warned individuals who are fond of dumping waste anywhere saying that they will be arrested and taken to court.
The official indicated that already some people are in curt for polluting the environment through poor waste management.
The CeC said that the county government is working with the Swedish government and the UN-Habitat on the Kango’ki land Fill which she said once completed will address the issue of waste in the county.
