Reports are emerging that Deputy President William Ruto left Kisii a very unhappy man after many leaders failed to attend his function in the county.

According to some residents, the deputy president left Kisii via his private plane to Nairobi without shaking the hand of his host, deputy governor Joash Maangi.

Maangi is understood to have failed in mobilising influential leaders from the region to attend the religion function, in which Ruto was the chief guest.

The deputy governor has however dismissed the claims, terming them as false and unfortunate.

“The deputy president came to a church function and not a political function,” Maangi said during a press briefing, referring to the event at the Anglican Church.

“It’s sad that people are spreading fictitious information in social media. It’s really unfortunate that our people are politicising even church functions,” Maangi said.

“Going around saying that I was obliged to ensure Kisii leaders attended the function is a malicious lie,” he said, adding that the invitation to the event at Gusii stadium was done by Anglican Church and all those who showed up were honouring the call.

He added that Ruto left early because he had another function to attend in Nairobi.
