The decision by all nine Kisii County Members of Parliament to boycott the Kisii Entrepreneurial Summit has been labelled as ‘childish and inexcusable’ by the deputy Governor.
The MPs gave the summit a wide berth despite having received invitation letters from the county government.
Mr Joash Maangi expressed his disappointment when he addressed reporters on Sunday, and urged the leaders to apologise to the community for the ‘embarrassment’ they caused.
“I am personally disappointed that our MPs could skip such an important investment summit that attracted people from the country and around the globe. It’s childish and inexcusable that we can lead our people like that. They all received invitation letters but none has given concrete reasons as to why they snubbed the function. It’s an embarrassment and my wish is that they apologise,” he said.
He accused the leaders of politicising activities aimed at improving the region's economy, and challenged residents to tame them during the 2017 polls.
“We may have different political beliefs and persuasions but that should not extend to boycotting important investment functions. Unity is important in boosting growth and economic prosperity among our people. Such leaders should be voted out in 2017 because they are impediment to development in our communities,” Maangi added.
The summit which ended on Saturday was opened by Cord leader Raila Odinga, and attracted great investment minds led by Bidco CEO Vimal Shah and Centum Inventiment’s, Chris Kirubi.
