Machakos county government has once again been asked by the Machakos residents to utilise the money set aside for calamities brought about by the heavy rains that were expected in the whole of Kenya and have been hitting the grounds for about a month so far.
This demand was again issued on Monday by a youth representative from Kangundo named Hesbon Wambua who said that so many people in Machakos county have been left homeless with some even loosing their loved ones but none of them getting assistance from those particular funds that were set aside by the Machakos county government. Speaking at a public meeting mostly attended by the youth in Kangundo town, Hesbon mentioned that he did not understand when the Machakos government was planning to utilise that money.
"About 3 weeks ago, more than 20 people were left homeless in Kathiani and MP Mbui was the only who gave some help to them in terms of money from his own pocket yet we know that there was money set aside to deal with such effects. Its time Machakos county government started using those funds because the need it was set for has already risen," said Mr. Wambua.
This came just a few weeks after the Machakos governor said that plans were being made to start assisting the floods stricken people. However, the residents have said that so far no records have been made of anyone having received assistance. They also complained that the contact numbers they were given to dial in case of emergencies are never picked up.
