Athi River deputy county commissioner, Kodeck Makori, has announced cholera outbreak in the area.

Addressing a public baraza in the town on Saturday, Makori said two people are admitted at Athi River Health Centre after suffering Cholera.

Makori said the two victims are from Kwa Mangeli and Bondeni slums.

The slums are among areas which were hit by heavy rains leading to floods.

Speaking to this writer, Mavoko MP Patrick Makau blamed Machakos County government for the outbreak claiming it failed to put necessary measures to curb any outbreak.

“Ineffective garbage collection in Mavoko is the cause of the reported cholera outbreak, litter has not been collected everywhere within the sub-county,” Makau said.

The MP said if the situation is not checked, more cases will hit the area.

The legislator threatened to lead residents in not paying revenue to the county government.

“We will be up in arms and walk on Mavoko streets to clean the garbage with the condition that no single resident remits revenue to the county government,” the MP said.
