MORE than 2,800 residents of Mavoko constituency on Wednesday received food donation from the area MP Patrick Makau.
Addressing the press at the region's CDF offices in Athi River town shortly after the donation exercise, Makau said that most of the families from the constituency live in abject poverty hence could not afford food stuff to celebrate their Christmas like other Kenyans across the country.
"I am privileged to share with the less privileged residents from Mavoko constituency with these food stuff so that they can enjoy themselves this festive season like other Kenyans from all over the country," said Makau.
Makau said that the beneficiaries included widows, elderly, orphans, widowers, people living with disabilities, people living with HIV/AIDS and those from very poor backgrounds who could hardly afford a meal in a day.
He said that the donations consisted of sugar, rice, maize meal flour, wheat flour, maize, cooking flour, beans and salt, commodities which he said would enable the less fortunate members of the public to eat well and feel acknowledged and important in the society.
Makau noted that majority of the beneficiaries cannot afford to pay rent in Athi River and Mlolongo towns and therefore live in several slums within and in outskirts of the two towns.
Makau urged those he referred to as fortunate members of the public from Mavoko constituency to extend their hands and give back to the community by donating their surplus food stuff to needy populace in their neighborhoods during this festive season.
Makau said that the donations were issued without bias since each and every member of the public who turned up for the occasion received enough food including children from Heritage of Hope and Faith Children Home, Bondeni Children Rescue Centre from Sabaki and Athi River town respectively within the constituency.
