West Mugirango MP Dr James Gesami has petitioned the national government to work on ensuring education in the country is truly free.
He asked President Uhuru Kenyatta to put education as a key priority of Jubilee administration.
He lamented that the government cannot keep talking about free education when indeed parents still pay a lot of money to schools.
The MP said he doesn’t believe that there must be bursaries for children to go to school if there was a robust, free education policy.
“We should never talk of free education when an ordinary Kenyan citizen cannot afford to pay fees unless they are supported by the insufficient government bursaries, the President needs to make education truly free by adequately funding the sector to benefit all children, including the most vulnerable,” he said.
Gesami was speaking at Bosiango Secondary School in Nyamira South during the disbursement of West Mugirango CDF bursary cheques on Wednesday.
