Drama ensued Monday in Kisumu Town after a man stormed a church demanding for his wife who took his Sh200, 000 for a tithe.

According to eyewitnesses, the woman said she took the money to give as a tithe for prayers citing the existence of evil spirits in her house.

The incident brought the noon sermon services at Welcome to Jesus Elevation Tabernacle church within Kisumu CBD to a standstill.

It took the intervention of male church ushers to eject the furious man out of the church.

After more than 10 minutes of a fist-fight, the man left the church premises before quick response team arrived at the scene.

An eyewitness, Lawrence Odengo, said the irate man accused the wife of taking the money without his consent which angered him.

He said the man claimed that was not the first time the wife took his cash to church.

The man has reported the matter at Kisumu Central Police station. He said that the money was part of the loan from a bank with his car as a guarantee.

Curious members of the public thronged the church to witness the drama.

However, they were barred from accessing the church following instructions from the bishop who could not comment as press members were not allowed in.

The public chided the church over the incident with some demanded its closure.
