Cases of goats and sheep being attacked and eaten by hyenas are on the rise in Kasanza area in Kwangii sub-location in Matungulu sub-county.

Speaking with some of the residents on Wednesday they explained of the sleepless nights they encounter worrying about their livestock.

Monica Kavindu explained how she lost seven of her sheep to the marauding hyenas.

She called on to the Kenya wildlife services to intervene and respond to the distress call as soon as possible and save them from the menace.

"Security of our livestock is at stake as residents are losing their animals one after the other, we would wish KWS would address the matter as soon as possible," said Kavindu.

Kavindu said that the hyenas are suspected to be coming from a nearby forest and come out at night to find food and it's dangerous for little children since they can be attacked by these animals.

They accused the sub-chief Mumo Kisini of failing to address the issue once these cases are reported to his office.

This comes two weeks after a group of boys killed a hyena that had attacked sheep while they were grazing.
