Coast Regional Coordinator Nelson Marwa has vowed to take action against criminal gangs operating in Mombasa.

This comes after a gang dubbed 'Wakali Kwanza' terrorised residents in Kisauni on Saturday, after they reportedly took over parts of the area for almost six hours, threatening and slashing residents with machetes.

Speaking after a security meeting with regional security officers at his Mombasa office on Monday, Marwa apologised to Kisauni residents over the incident, saying he was sorry for what happened and that the government would deal with the gangs.

"I want to apologise for what happened over the weekend. From now henceforth, whoever will be found terrorising residents will face the full wrath of the law," said Marwa.

Marwa assured Kisauni residents that security will be beefed up in the area.

The regional coordinator ordered the Kisauni Administration Police (AP) Commander to shift his residence from the CBD to Kisauni, in a bid tame crime effectively.
