Top Masaba branch KNUT officials have urged their colleagues around the country to consider coming together to form a formidable political party that would help fight for the plight of Kenyans in terms of development.

The officials led by deputy secretary general James Oteki and secretary general Meshack Ombongi on Wednesday vowed to introduce their proposal to the national executive, saying the party will also give teachers a bargaining power and bring to a halt alleged discrimination by government when addressing matters addressing teacher’s interests.

The two who have already secured their positions in the February 18th branch elections unopposed were addressing a caucus of selected party members across the region at Mochenwa secondary school.

“As KNUT, we should consider forming a political party that can be able to fight for the plight of Kenyans in all aspects not necessarily of teaching profession. We have seen top leaders from either side of the coalition’s misleading the country and leading to suffering of our people. It’s time for us to come up with the party which will also help us solve the crisis in the teaching profession,” Oteki said.

Mr Ombongi on his part said the political outfit would also help end corruption in the country which he said was the major undoing of the country.

“Most KNUT members are trade unionist and we need such people to change this nation. I am sure that if our members are given a chance, they can be able to effectively fight corruption which is the main undoing of our country. As teachers, the party will boost our bargaining power given at least every household in the country has a member of teaching professional,” he said.

The two were unanimous that the party would be able to garner support across the country due to already existing structured management of the teachers’ trade union which has offices across the country.
