Officials of Masaba KNUT branch from Nyamira county are optimistic that the Supreme Court will overturn the court of appeal’s ruling that dismissed the 50-60% salary increase of teachers that had been earlier on awarded by an industrial court in Nairobi.

This comes two days after the national executive committee of KNUT under the leadership of Secretary General Wilson Sossion gave the unions lawyers a go-ahead to appeal at the Supreme Court after TSC allegedly failed to come into agreements with the teachers as directed by President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Led by branch Secretary General Meshack Ombong'i and his Deputy James Oteki during the closing of a two days seminar at Storm Hotel on Sunday, they blamed the government for the stalemate and urged the supreme court to save the plight of teachers.

“Everyone knows what teachers are undergoing and basically the limbo is precipitated by the TSC with the aid of government. I am optimistic that Supreme Court’s judges will not be compromised like the appellate chambers and will deliver a ruling that will solve our issues once and for all,” Ombong’i said.

Oteki on his part said area teachers will expect a positive ruling from the Supreme Court and vowed to support another industrial action if the ruling didn’t favor the teachers.

“There are some dark forces working to intimidate teachers and we say no to the impunity. We hope as poor teachers, the Supreme Court will give a just ruling based on what we have presented for years now. We are however ready for another industrial action if the government is not willing to succumb to our legitimate demands,” he said.
