Maseno University students who were lucky to acquire accommodation inside the institution have resorted to selling the rooms at exorbitant prices those who missed out.

Posts on the students Facebook page indicate that rooms are being sold at more than Sh 4000.

It is however not clear where the students will get accommodation after selling the rooms.

Some of those who sold the rooms said they saw an opportunity to make extra cash this January and decided to utilize it.

“I saw desperate colleagues yet I had a room, I decided to sell it at Sh 6000 from the normal Sh 2900,” Brian Okeyo, a third year student at the institution, said.

Those who bought the rooms said it was better to buy the rooms because they had lost hope of getting a room.

“Exams are here, I had no room and someone was selling it, despite the high price I had no choice but to buy it,” Grace Wamuyu said.
