A security meeting has been scheduled for Monday morning by necessary stakeholders in and around Maseno University following a series of attacks on a number of students in Nyawita and Mabungo areas. SOMU president Bonface Oduory through messages on social media has told the students to give their suggestions that will lead to a lasting solution to the current insecurity problem.
The meeting has been scheduled after a number of students were attacked and injured by unknown people on Saturday night in Nyawita. Oduory says that he will work to ensure that the students are part of the solutions.
"I will try as much as I can to involve students in providing security measure that can be taken so that we can solve the issue as a whole," he said.
However, the students expressed mixed feelings over the wave of attacks with many pointing fingers to the varsity's administration for failure to provide a lasting solution. Haron Palo said that the elected leaders need to rise to the occasion and mitigate the situation and that they should not wait till one is hacked to death before doing something about it.
"For how long shall insecurity be an agenda before the administration considers a lasting solution to curb it? We need a permanent solution to this situation," he said.
India John Kennedy advised fellow students to take precaution as no one was taking care of their security.
"Nobody is coming to your rescue, save yourselves because not even the administration is going to save you from these rampant attacks," read his post to the Maseno Campus Politics Platform page on Facebook.
