Students at Maseno University Friday morning took to the ballot to choose their new students' union leader.
The Student Organization of Maseno University (Somu) presidential seat has been vacant for more than two weeks now.
Prof Mary Kipsat, the university’s Deputy Vice Chancellor Academics and Student Affairs, said that most of the aspirants had not met the requirements to contest, leading to postponement of the elections though a memo before the previous elections.
There were long voting queues by as early as 7am.
Hamphrey Aoro, a returning officer at one of the polling stations told this writer that he was optimistic the elections will go on peacefully.
“We request the students to maintain peace during voting and even during the tallying process,” he said
The presidential candidates are; Marwa Mathew, Usore Samwel Opiyo, Boniface Oduory, Abonyo Haron Palo, Okewa Japheth Siome and Chemai Victor Kuria.
