Police are investigating an incident in which a Maseno University Kisumu campus lecturer and a woman were found unconscious at the institution's fifth floor building in Kisumu town.
The don, teaches Community Health at the university's school of medicine located on the same floor.
The lecturer was found leaning on his chair with his lips covered in a white substance while the woman who works at a nursing facility was found lying on the floor with foam on her mouth. The two were found by a security guard on patrol.
Lying beside the two unconscious people was a syringe. It is believed the two might have injected themselves with a substance that could have led to their state at 1 pm on Friday.
They were later carried to the Maseno clinic just across the road where they were taken through first aid.
The university’s Public Relations Officer Jasper Otieno said the management is investigating the incident which took place in the don’s office.
“We will take action but after investigations are clear on what really happened,” said Otieno.
Kisumu County Police Commandant Nelson Njiri said the two were still drowsy, according to information he received from the don’s colleagues.
“There was an empty bottle of soda in the office, which we have taken for analysis same to a sachet of drugs that was also empty,” said Njiri, who stated that they are suspecting it was a case of drug abuse.
