Two matatu drivers escaped death by a whisker Thursday morning in Nakuru town after their vehicles collided head on outside the Nakuru High School on the Nakuru-Nyahururu road.
Witnesses said one of the matatus was heading to Maili Sita from town while the other was travelling from Subukia to town.
The matatu which was travelling from Maili Sita to town, according to the witnesses was speeding and trying to overtake when it collided with the other head on.
“The driver came speeding and he tired to overtake but did not see the oncoming matatu and the next thing we heard was a bang,” said one of the witnesses.
One matatu was severely damaged and thrown in a ditch but both drivers escaped unhurt.
The early morning accident caused a huge snarl up on the busy highway, luckily both matatus did not have passengers.
By the time of filing the story, the police had not arrived at the scene.
