A teachers' union official in Kisumu County has welcomed the move by Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i to release their September salary saying it was a positive gesture.
Kenya Union of Post Primary Education (Kuppet) Kisumu branch chairman Zablon Awange said the court verdict on the September pay was ignored and politicised.
He said the Teachers' Service Commission (TSC) proceeded to cripple the operations of teachers union's less by failing to remit union dues.
Awange asked Matiang'i to initiate reconciliation with teachers by implementing a pay rise, remitting unions' dues and releasing the September salary.
Awange said the government should stop "publicly promising" to pay September salary but later failing to obey the court order.
“We teachers shall only count what is in the bank and we shall not loose focus also on 50 percent pay rise and demand that the new CS arranges on when the pay rise will be effected," he said.
Awange was speaking in Kisumu on Monday.
