Cabinet Secretary for Education Fred Matiang’i on Tuesday ordered county education officials to form a joint education framework for managing schools.
He said effective management of public schools in the country required adoption of a coordinated approach to improve education standards.
Matiang’i asked the officers to establish a joint county education coordination framework for the betterment of performance in the education sector.
He also urged the education officers to embrace a constructive, consultative and collaborative management approach so that schools can run smoothly.
Speaking during the closure of a two-day workshop for senior county education officials at Tom Mboya Labour College in Kisumu, he said county education stakeholders should work together for better service delivery.
“As education stakeholders, we cannot succeed in posting good results if we are moving in different directions. We need teamwork because the ultimate goal is to improve on our performances,” Matiang’i said.
The CS told the education officials and teachers to be committed to service delivery, warning that action will be taken against lazy officials.
He said directors and school heads must always be accountable in the manner they execute services in their jurisdictions, noting that there was a fault in the public schools audit programme.
“The government will not take anything for granted but work towards better achievements because we are the builders of our children’s future,” he said.
Matiang’i raised concern over the current the current data management systems in schools, which he said is not reliable and accurate.
He proposed that the system be replaced by a scientific data storage system.
Meanwhile, Track One Learners Alliance Protection (TOLAP) chairman Innocent Masara has called for total overhaul of Kisumu county education directors.
Masara said that the county education director Sylvester Mulambe and his TSC director Patrick Nyagosia have failed to work within education policy.
He said the two have failed to coordinate education issues in the county and also engagement in corruption.
Speaking to press at public service club in Kisumu, Masara said the officials are allegedly promoting and demoting teachers unceremoniously.
