Residents from Embakasi Estate in Athi River town, Mavoko sub-county have faulted the Machakos government's new method of confiscating garbage.
Addressing the press in Athi River town on Friday, the residents said burning of litter is a health hazard hence exposing them to danger.
Workers of the government have resorted setting ablaze litter at all the garbage collection areas within Athi River each evening.
The residents said burning of the garbage is unacceptable because it results to air pollution.
"We as residents of Embakasi area cannot condone this new practice by the county government workers of burning garbage each evening instead of ferrying them to designated dumping sites as has been the practice," said Naomi Mwende.
Mwende, the spokesperson of the other residents said the Machakos government had seized collecting the garbage and instead burning them for the last three weeks.
Resident John Onyango, wondered what had become of the government that has made it incapable of deploying tractors and shovels to handle the garbage.
Onyango said it beats logic for such an awkward method to be ployed by a county government despite the fact it gets billions of fund allocations from both the national government's treasury and its tax collections.
The residents said they would not allow the practice to continue as the government continues to collect taxes from them citing inflated taxes by the same government that have for several months seen several businessmen demonstrate up to the county government offices in Machakos town.
